In a striking speech delivered from deep below the ocean's surface, Seychelles President Danny Faure on Sunday made a global plea for stronger protection of the "beating blue heart of our planet". Faure's call for action, the first-ever live speech from an underwater submersible, came from one of the many island nations threatened by global warming.
The WWF is sounding the alarm over plastics in the Mediterranean Sea after an 8-meter sperm whale was found dead off Sardinia with 22 kilograms of plastic in its belly. The garbage recovered included a corrugated tube for electrical works, plastic plates, shopping bags, tangled fishing lines and a washing detergent package with the brand and bar code still legible.
The United Nations Environment Assembly has adopted two resolutions piloted by India on single-use plastics and sustainable nitrogen management. The resolutions were adopted at the fourth session of UNEA which was held in Nairobi from March 11 to 15 on 'Innovative Solutions for Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Production and Consumption'.

The scientists at HKUST discovered the microbial species, including Acidobacteria — a natural medicinal phylum containing the CRISPR gene editing system found at sea for the first time. Over a span of 8 years, the team developed biofilms with water samples on different materials, eventually discovering the new biofilm-forming species & 10 new bacterial phyla.
